I'd also never realized how reminiscent Bernard Herrmann's musical score for this film is to his score for Vertigo. Adds an extra bit of gravitas.Brian Darrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17693169310367670898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2531345904528580427.post-56955795367590452172010-08-22T12:32:53.772-07:002010-08-22T12:32:53.772-07:00Nice write-up, Sean. I had a perfectly enjoyable afternoon yesterday catching matinees of the first three Harryhausen films in the series. Pleasant to hear the applause for his name among the credits, as well as the film's composers. And especially pleasant to observe the two children sitting in front of me enjoying the films so much. It reminded me of my own childhood when these films were offered for free matinees at the Idaho Theatre in Twin Falls, Idaho.Michael Guillenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15464792353062386579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2531345904528580427.post-70610777633284589522010-08-20T16:17:49.216-07:002010-08-20T16:17:49.216-07:00Thanks Dan, for the links. And I'd never heard of the Silicon Valley Film Festival until now. No comment on the third one.Brian Darrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17693169310367670898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2531345904528580427.post-34051516224858239342010-08-20T08:56:19.480-07:002010-08-20T08:56:19.480-07:00Upcoming local film festivals for your sidebar...

That's Sept 9 to 12 at various venues including Viz and Grand Lake in Oakland. The films sound strangely appealing to me but the thought of attending a festival (presumably full of acolytes) is intimidating.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04964422940043243338noreply@blogger.com
